The Last Word - 613 Avenue Create

Hi, Crafty Peeple!

I created this project for our challenge this week at 613 Avenue Create.   I had decided not to post it here on my blog, but then, Hubby and I had a "discussion" and I realized he had temporarily forgotten one of the cardinal rules.

Remember, our Optional Twist this week is Humorous Saying.  If you don't have one, we have some Freebies on our blog.

The Outlawz Greetings Challenge: Anything Goes

Hello, Crafty Peeps!

Although I did not know it at the time, this is my final project as a member of The Outlawz Design Team.    The Outlawz was my first ever DT and I thought I would be there regardless; but life is just full of little surprises.   As much as I like to think that all I need do to defeat my illness is be of a "strong will," the fact of the matter is I need to pick my battles....stress is something I can control, by not taking on more than I should and accepting the fact that I have limitations in my life now, that I did not have previously.

I have also come to the realization that there are other matters to which I want to devote my time and the only way to free up time is by cutting back on my crafting hours.   I will miss the ladies at Outlawz!  It was a fun experience, free of drama, and full of encouragement and inspiration!

MY BEST FRIEND - THE HAND FAN
I made this fan for ME!  I have had a hand fan by my side since the onset of menopause, and actually, for a few years before that! One of my favorite oriental fans disappeared (in church of all places).  I left my seat, came back and my fan was gone! SSMH over that one.  I left my FDR fan at my last place of employment.  Since I never wanted to see that place again, I didn't even attempt to retrieve my fan.  I was planning to go to The Little White House in Warm Springs to get another, but then lighting struck and TLWH burned to the ground, so the park was temporarily closed. Finally, I lost a fan I have had since 1995 (sigh) so I decided to make a fan for myself.   We humans do love to attach ourselves to the strangest things!

Actually, this project gave me an opportunity to use the cool vintage stamps from the Canvas Corps (7 Gypsies) American Vintage Collection.  I also used some of the vintage road signs.  I think my favorite is the Route 66 sign.  Brings back memories of the old TV show!  I love my new fan and all the funky textures!
On the back, I used this opportunity to play with some of my Tattered Angels Sprays and Mists.  I even used two of the Plain Jane Baseboard Mists (Clay and Bittersweet) to stain the handle!

This has been a quick post!  Thanks for stopping by!

Shopping Our Stash - Challeng 198 - Texture Me

Hello, Crafty Peeples!

SHOPPING OUR STASH

We continue to help you reduce your stash and form new relationships with techniques and tools you may have forgotten.  This week, we want you to:  Use Your Oldest Embossing Supply (folder, powder, or even a stylus and brass template.)

 Rest and Relaxation
I used a Brass Stencil (Sea Shell) purchased in 1999.  It is wonderful to use when creating stationery sets.  On this card, it is a "pocket" in which I can put candy or a tag.  I have a lot of these brass stencils and it was really difficult to choose which one to use.  I still enjoy using my lightbox, stylus, and solid brass stencils.

Supplies:
Paper:  Webster Pages - Collection Triple Pack (In Love, Palm Beach, Game On)
Stencil: American Traditional Brass Stencil - Sea Shell
Twine
Ephemera (R&R is from the Pink Paislee Nantucket Collection)

So, now, pull out your old embossing folders, texture plates, or brass stencils and let us see if you remember how to use them.   Looking forward to see what you create!

Outlawz Monday Greetings Challenge- Anything Goes

Hello, Crafty Peeps!

USE FABRIC
I have been playing with my inks again and for this project I decided to use my Earth Safe Finishes Paints in combination wtih one of the new Rainger Distress Inks.

"CHERISH"
Originally, this canvas was supposed to be called "Behind The Trellis" but I did not like the outcome when I tried using the trellis die cut over the entire canvas.  I will try it again, but with different elements!  I absolutely love the ESF paints.  These are "green" products.
The Base Color of the Canvas is Rangers's Abandoned Coral.
The Stencil is TCW's Mini Window Screens
My Fabric items are:  Small Silk Flowers and Large Cotton Flower
Each side of the canvas different.  On this side I used Paint and Drywall Tape
This side is a combination of stenciled texture paste, drywall tape, paint and Viva Gold wax rub.
The top and bottom sides also have unique designs using stencils, texture paste, and paints.
I wish I had a close up of the flower.  It is very pretty IRL!
 Petaloo Darjeeling  "Frosted Roses."
These flowers are made of recycled cotton and take paint very well.
I used the four Earth Safe Finishes paints from the Canvas Palette.
Trimmed it with Viva Ink Old Gold, and  covered the entire flower in a thick coat of Ranger Crackle Accents.  The result is an iridescent, glittery flower.

I am pleased with the outcome of this Canvas.  I am still new at this, so I am always thrilled when I feel comfortable posing one of the projects.   Hope you like it, too!

Supplies:
Paints: Earth Safe Finishes Chalk It Up
Key Lime
Plum Preserves
Huckleberry Cobbler
Iridescents Limelight

Canvas:   Artist's Loft 5"x5" Canvas
TCW Stencils:  Mini Modern Checkerboard, Mini Window Screen, Mini Life Shapes
Die Cuts:  Cherry Lynn's Fanciful Flourish, Sizzix Frameworks Lattice, Sizzix Thinlits Handwritten Love
Other:  Viva Ink - Old Gold, TH Crackle Paint, Texture Paste, Gesso, Mod Podge

613 Avenue Create - Create Your Own Challenge - Neew Grid

Hello, Crafty Peeps!
I am having some real time management issues.  I thought I scheduled this post for Sunday!
This week at 613 Avenue Create, we want you to create your own challenge using Kathi's wonderful new grid.  Pick one item from each column and off you go!
Please let us know which iems you chose.
Canvas Corp Brands has a new line of 7 Gypsies Papers called American Vintage!  I received a few sheets in my box and one of the sheets was old vintage postage stamps.  My tag did not turn out exactly as I envisioned, but I still like it.  I have a few projects in mind that will make great use of these old stamps.  The tag background was created using Canvas Corp's Tattered Angels Sprays and Mists and distressed wtth Tim Holtz Distress Inks.   As is often the case with my tags, this project was inspired by a design by Tammy Tutterow.

My Grid Elements : TAG, ENCOURAGEMENT, METALLIC
The tag itself was cut from a Kellogg cereal box.
The Stamps are from the Graphic 45 Typography Collection

Additional elements are: Washi Tape, Twine, Ribbon (Really Reasonable Ribbons)
Tim Holtz Film Strip and a charm from Beading Station 100 Plus BSI

Thanks for stopping by!

Shopping Our Stash #197 - Lost and Found - One More Brown Bag Project

Hello, Crafty Peeps!
The Team over at Shopping Our Stash is challenging you to use something that you have rediscovered!  It could be something you lost or it could be something you forgot you owned.  Be sure to let us know what has be Lost and Found!

I continue to work on my Recipe Book and as I complete some elements, I will show them here.  I have rediscovered a lot of things while rummaging around in my stash looking for "Kitchen, Cooking, or Food" related items.  My greatest discovery, has been Ephemera.  I used to buy a lot of it when I first started crafting.  But, as with so many trends, I stopped using it until I started following Tammy Tutterow's blog and saw how she used emphemera to add interest to her projects.

Lost and Found items on this project are "The Mason Jar and Mailing Label Ephemera"
One of the sections in my recipe book is "Brown Bag Lunches" and it occured to me that it would be very appropriate to use a brown paper bag as the index page for this section.
I actually lost the Mason Jar ephemera piece.  Thankfully, I found another in the package.
Recipes are stored inside the bag and there is a place on the back for notes.
The spoons were cut from a Sizzix/Hampton Art
(Framelit For Graphic 45) set I had totally forgotten.
The Stencil is Heidi Swapp's Square Lattice

The neat thing about this project is that you can recreate it and use it to share recipes.
This is a small lunch bag.  My finished bag is 7 1/2" x 4 1/4 "
I cut about 1/2 inch off the top of the bag because I wanted to cut my own thumb pull.

Thanks for stopping by!  I look forward to seeing your projects in our challenge.  I know many interesting Lost items will be Found and put to good use!

Chana

Shopping Our Stash Challenge #196 The Earth Has Music!!

Hello, Crafty Peeps!

This week Shopping Our Stash is Collaborating with Words 2 Scrap By.
This month's words celebrate this first full month of spring and come from renown author and philosopher
"The earth has music for those who listen."

I wholeheartedly agree with Mr. Santayana.
I believe the most beautiful music  on earth happens when we lift our voices together
regardless of race, creed, color, religion, or national origin

"There comes a time, when we need a helping hand,
When the world must come together as one"

WE ARE THE WORLD
(excerpt from USA Today click here for full article)
On Jan. 28, 1985, at A&M Recording Studios in Hollywood, following the American Music Awards, more than 40 artists gathered to record a song Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson had written to raise awareness of widespread, life-threatening poverty in Africa. Most of that show's winners — including Cyndi Lauper,Hall & OatesBruce SpringsteenHuey LewisWillie NelsonTina Turner, the Pointer SistersKenny Rogers and the Jacksons — participated.

Happy 30th Anniversary!  The image is from the South African Celebration
The background was created using The Crafters Workshop's " Mini Mod Checkerboard" Stencil.
The Cover Stock, emphemera, charms, are all Stash Items
Thanks for stopping by!  I look forward to your participation in both challenges!

The Outlawz Greetings Challenge-Happy Spring/Use An Animal -= A Tutorial

Hello, Crafty Peeps!

Welcome to another challenge at The Outlawz.  The Greetings Challenge Team would like to see your Spring Creations.
Our theme this week is "Happy Spring/Use An Animal."

I am working on a recipe book for another DT and one of the elements I am including are fancy recipe and menu cards.   Since I am not coloring these days, the "use an animal" twist tin this challenge threw me off a little but I did find a piece of ephemera that allowed me to at least comply with the spirit of the challenge1 :D)

My inspiration for this project is a tutorial at:  Tammy Tutterow  Use her tutorial if you want to recreate her project!  Hugz, Chana

RECIPE CARD STEP TUTORIAL

Supplies:
2 pcs - Neenah Cover Stock White or Cream  (4" x 6")
1 pc  -  Core'dinations Cardstock - All in the Family "Out to Sea" (4 1/2" x 6 1/2")

Tropical Pink Glimmer Mist
Plain Jane Simply Sheer Matte Mist - Un-Birthday
Plain Jane Simply Sheer Matte Mist - Cozy Yellow
Plain Jane Baseboard Matte Mist (semi opaque) Sky
Plain Jane Baseboard Matte Mist semi opaque) Grass

Tim Holtz Ranger Distress Inks:
Gathered Twigs, Broken China, Peacock Feathers, Scattered Straw

Heidi Swapp Mixed Media Stencil - Square Lattice
Pink Paisley - Nantucket Ephemera and Stamps (<---Click Link) This product is discontinued, but Jo~Ann's still has some in stock.
Misc:
Seam Binding - colored with Distress Inks and Sprays (I used a scrap piece)
Brads, Flowers
Texture Paste, glue, mod podge( or other sealant) Gesso

Cut a piece of Neenah Natural White Linen Cover Stock to 4" x 6" and cover both sides with Gesso and let air dry (or use heat tool to speed up drying.) The brush strokes from the Gesso add additional texture to the design.

Mist the panel with your various sprays (all or any combination of the colors in supply list)until you achieve the desired effect.  Some of this will be covered with texture paste.  I blotted lightly each time I sprayed, but this is not necessary.  Let your eyes be the best judge.  Use heat to dry.  Note: Colors will be softer.

Position your stencil and apply texture paste to the desired area.  It is helpful to have some idea of where you plan to place you emphemera so that you don't totally cover the stenciled design.

Lift the stencil and allow paste to air dry or use heat tool.  Clean your stencil with water.

Reposition the stencil over the paste and align the imprint (sorry for the shadows, my paper bowed a little) sponge stenciled area with Distress Inks (Gathered Twigs, Peacock Feathers, etc.)

Sponge edges with Gathered Twigs (Vintage Photo will work just as well)

(1) To Make A Greeting Card: Cut a card base of a coordinating color 1/4 " to 1/2" larger than your card front.  Add your ephemera, ribbon, and stamped images or sentiments to your card front and attach it to your base cardstock.  For a more vintage look, use your distressing tool to tatter your edges.

(2)To Make A Tag or Door Hanger:  Cut a piece of cardstock in a coordinating color 1/4 " to 1/2" larger than your panel front.  Add your ephemera, ribbon, and stamped images or sentiments to your card front and attach it to your accent backing.  Punch a hole in the center of your tag and use your crop-a-dile to insert an eyelet, thread ribbon through eyelet.

This is the panel I used for my finished project.  The panel created during this tutorial will be used for another recipe card!

(3)To Make The Menu Card:  Adhere your ephemera, ribbon, and stamped images or sentiments to your card face and set it aside.  Cut a piece of cardstock in a coordinating color 1/4 " to 1/2" larger than your card front (my panel is 4 1/4" x 6 1/4".)  Type or print your recipe on the second 4" x 6" piece Neenah linen cover stock.  Attach menu to cardstock.  Turn over and attach card front.  Use corner chomper to round off corners,  I use 1/2".

Before placing the panel in my recipe book, I applied a piece of very thin cold laminating paper to the recipe to protect it.  I wanted to see if the WRMK Photo Fuse tool would seal it to the paper, but since I am still wating for the tool to be delivered, I will have to see if the lamination works!

Thansks for stopping by.   Also, thanks to Tammy Tutterow for being such an inspiration!
Hugz,
Chana
